NAYNAILEDEM SETS

Haven't you heard? The BEST DMV nail tech is back in town! And she's not alone...

Naynailedem linked up with my brother, Pluto for a custom nailset in his Philly editorial shoot!

"Through creation there is God. That will be expressed in many ways."

Everybody has a God given talent. Mine is clearly finding the gems in the city. Whereas Ronay, curator of Naynailedem has found a gift in original nail art! Discovering our gifts through what draws us in naturally mixed with some hustle and grind! Now, we've got a craft. Follow this article as we learn more about Ronay's journey of becoming an established nail technician in her hometown.

Collaborations with Naynailedem showed me the potential you have when you trust in the Divine. Genuinely exchanging ideas for the ultimate purpose of beautifying my looks, maximizing the potentiality of the space. Our finished product is always serving grand looks.

Our hands are our most noticeable features, besides our face. If the nails aren't looking right it's easy to feel self-conscious. Which is why it requires a level of trust when finding nail technicians. When artists trust each other to uphold a vision and are willing to make necessary changes along the way, it usually makes for the best art.

Ronay always extends patience when I am working through my indecisive moments. We'll spend our nail dates cracking jokes, experimenting with designs, and somehow always end up in deep conversation.

Ronay is known to keep a smile on her clients face with her artistic skills and ability to make you laugh even on your worst days!

Having a passion and strife for making your dreams come true makes it that much easier to manifest. As well as a team that believes in you.

Family Ties

It takes a true entreprenuerial spirit to be able to relocate and continually invest in your business. A drive, motivated by passion to really do what you love. This past year, Ronay traveled to Georgia to attend nail school and after gaining clientele, experience, and skill she returned to Maryland. Only this time she isn't alone and she has a private nail suite!

Lontrese, Ronay's sister began doing nails in 2018, two years later Ronay began herself. They inspire each other to become better nail artists and businesswoman. I am heavily inspired by the grind from the two of them, building from scratch and not afraid to take risk to prosper. It's empowering to see melanated queens expanding their professions together.

Real Talk

Don't you love when you go to the nail salon and you get exactly what you ask for? Or when you get to share the latest tea with your nail technician because she remembers what y'all talked about last time? They don't ask to be our therapist or our friends but on the real, they hold some of the best spaces for us! "As an independent nail tech, people love to support our business but it can be a struggle getting people to support our pricing. It can be discouraging because I know my worth." Ronay shares in response to my question on how we can better support local nail techs. Although, most are more than willing to go to the Asian ladies down the street and spend even more on a basic acrylic set because it is "standard" pricing. No shade to coperate business, but I do feel as though independent artists in general, are always facing battles about their worth. Which ultimately should not be defined by us, more than them. So as Ronay says in our short interview,

"Support our pricing, we work hard to give quality nails!"

Every artist has their weakness, like trying not to compare yourself to other artists and their journeys. Or having a tough time finding your niche. I believe Ronay's response to her favorite part about being a nail artist is the best advice for all, "my favorite thing about being a nail artist is constantly getting out of my comfort zone. This whole experience has been nothing but me pushing myself beyond limits, that were essentially nonexistent."

A few things I've learned since beginning this article are as follows. It's gratifying, achieving things that we never knew we were capable of. Giving yourself the space to try new things surprisingly assists in overcaming the mental battles. There is a reason you are here on your journey. There is endless possibility when you reach in the pool of potential, versus the sink of doubt. Lastly, keep going.

HUGE THANK YOU TO MY SISTER, MY FRIEND, MY NAIL TECHNICIAN RONAY FOR CONSISTENTLY GIVING THE GIRLS AND GUYS WHAT THEY NEED - YALL BE SURE TO SUPPORT BLACK SISTERS IN BUSINESS AND BOOK AN APPOINTMENT ASAP!
